The modern EFI system on today’s fuel injected motorcycles performs well (or at least somewhat acceptable on most bikes) and is and capable of delivering the proper fueling and performance under most conditions on a completely stock bike. However, the Alpha (N) /Speed Density systems EFI motorcycles utilize works off a principle of RPM x throttle position and input from various sensors. The bike’s ECU programming works reasonably well when the bikes are completely stock (although the ECU programming is also very lean in certain areas for emmision reasons). When you change components such your exhaust this is a different story, as the bikes ECU is not capable of adapting to the these modifications. Although your EFI system may see the difference in intake air speed, the ECU’s stock programming remains the same, delivering the same fuel at the same RPM etc. This usually leads to the EFI delivering an incorrect air/fuel ratio. Some common symptoms are surging, misfiring and loss of power. This is where the Power Commander will help! The Power Commander is a fuel injection adjustment module that plugs “inline” with the bikes’ stock ECU and has the ability to add or remove fuel throughout the entire RPM range. This offers the ultimate in tuning and Air/Fuel ratio adjustment. The PC uses original equipment style connectors so that no splicing or cutting of the harness is required. Most installations take less than 15 minutes, some as little as 5 minutes. Changes are made to the bikes fuel (and ignition timing curves on Harley Davidson models) via the PC’s onboard microprocessor. Using this technology the Power Commander offers a large area of adjustment without making any permanent changes to the bikes factory ECU. Changes are made by making adjustments to a “Map” that is loaded into the unit. Removing the PC returns the bike to its previous stock condition.
